Nellie was surrendered to rescue by a local breeder after she could no longer have puppies. We were told this sweet girl had eight litters of puppies... and she's only about 5 years old. She has been the sweetest and gentlest soul since arriving in our care, and we are so happy that she can have a future being pampered and spoiled how she deserves. In addition to needing routine care (vaccines, her spay surgery, bloodwork, and addressing crystals in her urine), Nellie suffers from severe respiratory distress and struggles to breathe anytime she gets excited. If her foster mom walks into the room, if she sees another dog, if she meets a new friend... she can barely breathe and is gasping for air. We are honestly shocked that she survived raising so many litters of puppies because of how she struggles to breathe. She was born with extremely small nostrils, which as you know is common in poorly bred French bulldogs. We would like to provide her with nostril widening surgery to widen her nasal openings and allow for easier breathing. She also requires a soft palate resection to keep it from blocking her airway; she will be spayed at the same time as the nostril widening surgery so she only has to go under anesthesia once. We and Nellie's veterinarian are optimistic that she will be able to breathe better with the procedure, which if successful, will give her a better quality and a longer life.
